Jack's Companies is a family of companies; Oil/Propane Distribution, Towing, and five Convenience Stores. Controller position will have responsibilities for each.

CONTROLLER JOB DESCRIPTION: Oversees and constructively manages all company accounting operations including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Inventory compliance. This position will be a member of the executive team which includes the ownership group, CFO, and operation managers. Controller will be involved in strategic financial and operational decisions including business planning, cash management, and budgeting. Controller will have a lead role in creation and implementation of policy and procedure. Confidentiality at all levels of this position is of the highest importance.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and 5-7 years relevant work experience

- Strong interpersonal skills

- Interest in the petroleum industry including petroleum infrastructure particularly in the Midwest.

- Interest and/or experience in commodity hedging, future contracts.

- Strong organizational skills

RESPONSIBILITIES - PRIMARY:

- Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures

- Monitors financial condition by active participation and provides information as directed.

- Maintains and enforces all accounting policies and procedures.

- Jack’s Companies currently uses Red River Software for all accounting, payroll, and inventory control.

- Understanding of this software and all its intricacies is a must .

- Work with staff on any changes or additions to software to include lead role in implementation, training, and enforcement of these.

- Develop, maintain, and enforce policy and procedure to manage all risk management including hedges, fixed contracts, and index supply contracts.

- This includes both those between Jacks Companies and suppliers along with Jacks Companies and customers

- Prepare and maintain documented system of tracking and balancing all Jacks Companies product contracts

- Prepare and analyze month end reports for all Jacks Companies

- Develop procedures working with staff to allow daily activity to be maintained while this process is in play.

- Oversee all daily accounting activity by staff including Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable posting and processing along with C-stores daily books.

- Work with CFO to review current accounting policies and procedures, make recommendations and plans for implementation of improvements upon existing procedures

- Define, benchmark, and implement operational ‘best practices’

- Work with executive team to ensure all Jacks Companies comply with Federal, State, and Local legal and regulatory requirements by studying existing and new legislation. Where appropriate, prepare documentation making sure all Jacks Companies qualifies for programs and/or grants.

- Advises on financial analyses and decision making regarding capital investments, pricing, contract negotiations, significant costs benchmarks, and other management matters.

RESPONSIBILITIES - SECONDARY

- Work with Service Manager and Fleet Manager to develop ‘best practices’ in all aspects of service and fleet management

- Develop policy and procedure to be as efficient as possible

- Software development and implantation

- Inventory control processes

- Work with Store General Manager and Store Managers to develop ‘best practices’ in all aspects of C-store operations

- Work with Human Resource Manager to ensure all Federal, State, and Local laws are complied with and regulatory paperwork is completed and filed timely.

- Work with Human Resource Manager to help with job market analysis, (pay, benefits, competitive advantage for staffing). Assist in the employee benefit package.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
