GENERAL SUMMARY:


Operate the boxer, which cases product for customers, and Operate depalletizer so that continuous flows of cans are fed to the labeler without overruns. Check that label and product match, can codes, lot numbers and quality of labels and cans being run, and printing of the box. Lubricate and service caser on regular basis.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate a caser to box product at the same speed as the label line.
  • Set cartons on the caser so labeled product will be processed.
  • Check the sealer at the beginning of the shift and after lunch break.
  • Check can codes to see if labels agree with the printing on the box, then direct boxes to sealer.
  • Remove badly dented cans, leakers and loosely or unevenly labeled cans from caser or carton and replace with undamaged product before sending filled box to sealer.
  • Obtain a schedule of product to be run for the shift.
  • Fill depal and can line with cans and assist label operator with running several cases of product to insure printer, gluer and boxer are working properly.
  • Check can code can to assure correct product and lot are being run.
  • Watch for dents, leakers, rust and any other defect. Remove defective cans and notify supervisor if defective can amounts are substantial.
  • Stack slip-sheets neatly.
  • Store defective cans in a box until lot is run, then separate according to defect, recorded as to how many for each defect and the reason for the damage/defect.
  • Be acquainted with the number of boxes to be run for an order. Keep track of the number by using the counter. This will eliminate the need for stopping to check case count and overruns.
  • Report mechanical problems to label operator immediately.
  • Maintain caser and work area in clean and efficient manner.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Adhere to all Lakeside Foods policies and procedure.
  • Notify Warehouse Management immediately if any unsafe or potentially hazardous conditions are discovered.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge:

Three to six months related experience or training on boxer machine.

Language Skills:

Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
