Duties and responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the operations and staff of the Corporate Accounting team ensuring accounting practices and controls are followed
  • Review and approve accounts payable, account receivable invoices, bank transactions, and journal entries
  • Direct and review intra-company transactions with parent company
  • Coordinate month-end close processes to provide timely and accurate financial statements and supporting reconciliations
  • Review and approve all general ledger accounts monthly to ensure timely reconciliation and resolution of outstanding items
  • Prepare monthly financial statements
  • Review account activity variances and investigate significant issues to report to management
  • Lead monthly financial close review and provide financial analysis as requested by SVP of Accounting, CFO and/or other members of Executive Leadership
  • Assist with a system of management cost reports
  • Prepare other required entity financial reporting and compliance to regulatory and licensing agencies
  • Prepare debt governance reporting
  • Review interim tax provision and payments, coordinate and review taxes preparation with outside accounting firm, coordinate responses with tax authorities and comply with local, state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies, procedures and controls
  • Accountable for ensuring adequate internal controls are present and functioning
  • Acts as back up back administrator for all organizational bank accounts.
  • Organize, and coordinate annual audit and other due diligence processes in collaboration with internal and external auditors as well as the company’s Risk and Compliance teams.
  • Adopt a lean approach to processes and procedures so the team is operating at a constant high degree of efficiency.
  • Maintain financial system setup, account sets, dimensions, and other structural elements
  • Assist in Identification and implementation of system enhancements that reduce operational risk, create operating efficiency, or improve customer service
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of applicable experience in with increased responsibilities over time.
  • Experience with Custodial accounting, as well as experience in the mortgage industry if preferred

Experience/Training

  • Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Project management skills supporting achievement of strategic initiatives
  • Experience managing others is a requirement
  • Experience managing relationships with external auditors

Professional Certification/License

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar designation preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to distill complex analyses into structured outputs and present to all levels of management.
  • Effective project management skills. Possesses critical thinking and decision-making, analytical problem solving, business astuteness, and process orientation skills.
  • Independent, self-starter; able to set agenda and drive progress with little direction.
  • Superior organization & attention to detail. Ability to multi-task and synthesize multiple perspectives to get the most important thing done.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into simple, actionable information to drive key decisions or shape opinions.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, collaborate, and influence senior leaders.
  • Ability to garner key insights by drawing inferences from disparate sources of evidence and pressure test against sound business logic and understanding
  • Demonstrated and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to interact effectively with external (vendors/auditors) and internal clients across departments and locations.
  • Ability to solve problems, while recognizing opportunities, understanding risk and acting quickly to overcome obstacles and reach a solution.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and distribute workload for optimum efficiency
  • Ability to motivate staff to achieve their goals. Flexibility to engage remote team members to perform at their best.

Working Conditions

Work may be performed in a professional office or home office environment with no unusual hazards. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, headsets, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
