POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director will support the strategic planning and district mission assuring that every student and staff member has opportunity to become a competent user of technology and that technological resources are available to enhance the instructional, administrative, and management functions of the school district. This person will support student learning, and provide support for students to be competitive in today’s world. The Director of Technology is responsible for oversight of the Columbia Falls School District’s technology, network, and data systems. The Director of Technology ensures the performance, security, and data integrity of network-based and computing resources in the district. The Director of Technology provides training and assistance for district personnel to support student learning.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Job Status—Full Time
  • Rate of Pay- Salary- $ 70,000 + negotiable based on experience
  • Positions supervised- Support Techs
  • Minimum travel required
  • Work schedule- 12 Calendar Months- 260 days. 2,080 hours
  • Retirement/Benefits-Social Security and Public Employees Retirement System (PERS)
  • Health Insurance- same as for non-represented classified employees
  • Vacation/Sick Leave- per state statutes 2-18-612 and 2-18-618
  • Holidays- School holidays as defined in Montana Code Annotated (MCA) 20-1-305

REPORTS TO: School District Superintendent

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee, organize, and maintain the network design, installation and administration of school voice, video, and data systems.
  • Oversee and organize the installation, maintenance, and replacement of servers, workstations, network printers, telephones, wireless network devices, wiring infrastructure, and other network devices.
  • Oversee network administration including trouble shooting, loading and upgrading software, creating user accounts, managing storage space, monitoring passwords, monitoring virus logs, scheduling maintenance, resolving printer problems, etc.
  • Provide data management expertise in the areas of data entry, data export, web-site development, ordering, budgeting, and purchasing.
  • Provide support in importing, exporting, cleansing district data in district software application programs such as the student information system, state data warehouse, library program, lunch program, and others.
  • Oversee, trouble-shoot, and administer technology and participates in recommending and implementing upgrades and changes as needed.
  • Participate in training staff on District technology software and hardware as needed, both in individual and group settings.
  • Oversees the management of district student information systems and other district level software applications.
  • Oversees the electronic data collection and transfer of data to appropriate local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Participate in the District Leadership Team, the Technology Committee, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Work with all technology paraprofessionals and staff to provide for the timely maintenance and repair of technology equipment.
  • Coordinate annual basic use training for new and existing staff and, as requested, facilitates training related to technology integration.
  • Provide support for other District projects requiring technology assistance.
  • Provide information in response to inquiries in person, by telephone or through email; refers inquiries to appropriate staff.
  • Plan and prioritize workload to meet set deadlines.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory of supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Provide opportunities for all staff to improve in their knowledge and practical use on Information Systems.
  • Complete and file all e-rate applications and reports in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and deliver reports relative to technology.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Education, or related field.
  • Specific technology certifications such as CompTIA A+ Certification.
  • Experience in school management information systems, information systems, information technology, or computer science.
  • Experience managing complex information technology resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Technology experience in a public school education environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in the field of technology.
  • Working knowledge of network systems including: TCPIP and related network protocols, wireless access technologies and related security, active directory environment and workstation/server operating systems.
  • Current awareness of emerging technologies.
  • Ability to maintain effective professional relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of district data.
  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.
  • Skills in critical thinking, problem analysis, and resolutions.
  • Ability to work effectively with people with a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to become proficient and successfully operate Tyler Technologies, Infinite Campus, and other education specific software.
  • Knowledge of Chromebooks and Thin Clients; as well as, Remote Desktop, Microsoft Office, MS OS products, Google Suite, and Teamviewer.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Skills, dedication, and aptitude for working with students.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and report on a weekly, monthly and annual task list.
  • Ability to anticipate staff training needs.
  • Must be a team player with a logical and creative mind willing to learn and share suggestions openly with the team.

A variety of electronic and technology devices, copier, telephone/voice mail, fax.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside, but will travel to different buildings within the District. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with time constraints.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer; occasionally walk and stand; twist at neck, bend at waist; kneel; stoop; and crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in school environments. May be required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.

MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are usually available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity.
