South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC), a subsidiary of BioBridge Global, is a not-for-profit community blood center specializing in a variety of services to include providing blood, plasma, platelets and other blood components to numerous hospitals in 43 South Texas counties. Pay Rate: Hourly $17.30- $20.00/ Annual $35,984.00- $41,600.00

General Summary

Responsible for medical evaluation, acceptability, phlebotomy, and care of donors within our service area.

Provide world class customer service by capturing and being responsive to the voice of the customer (internal or external, including donors for select positions) through multiple feedback channels in order to resolve issues and drive satisfaction in accordance with the BBG customer engagement, feedback, and complaint processes.


Major Duties and Responsibilities


Essential Tasks


Deliver an impeccable donation experience.

Maintain a good working relationship with co‐workers.

Assist in the unloading, setting up, taking down and reloading of mobile equipment.

Perform quality control function.

Determine donor eligibility through comprehensive medical history interview, medical screening procedures (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, Hgb/Hct via finger stick).

Ensure all necessary records are legible, accurate and complete.

Perform phlebotomy and automated collection procedures.

Perform, assess and treat adverse donor reactions.

Perform record review and data entry.

Maintain a good working relationship with supervisor including reporting issues relating to donors, donor groups, or departmental operations.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Non‐Essential Tasks

Provide assistance to other departments as needed.


Education

Requires a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma. Prefer one or more years of medical training.


Experience

Requires customer service experience.

Requires medical background experience and/or phlebotomy certification.


Knowledge

Must acquire a working knowledge of donor processing criteria.

Must maintain knowledge of and perform according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.

Must acquire a working knowledge of medical terminology.

Must have a working knowledge and understanding of FDA regulations and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).


Skills

Must demonstrate competency in determining donor eligibility.

Must have strong customer service skills.

Must demonstrate competency in performing donor registration, screening, phlebotomy, and monitoring donor safety.

Must have strong computer skills.

Must be able to print and write legibly.


Abilities

Must be a team player.

Must be able to keep information confidential.

Must be able to perform multiple requests simultaneously while maintaining quality and accuracy.

Must be neat in appearance and well groomed.

Must be professional, organized, detail oriented, communicative, and have the ability to greet the public in a friendly and courteous manner.


Working Environment

Works in well lighted, air‐conditioned and heated vehicle or office environments, but may work in confined spaces and non‐climate controlled conditions.

May be exposed to body fluids, blood borne pathogens, electrical and chemical hazards.

May be required to occasionally travel out‐of‐town or stay overnight for mobile blood drives.

May be required to work at any time of the day, evening or night during the week or weekend.

Occupational Exposure Assignment ‐ Category I


Schedule:

Variable hours to include mornings, days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Overnight travel is required as well.
