J&J Truck Bodies and Trailers is seeking an individual to fill the dual role of Engineering Director & Manufacturing Engineer directing the design and integration of the production systems and managing the overall work quality and performance of the engineering function for a small to midsize industrial manufacturer. This key organizational leader is responsible for all engineering projects in the manufacturing process and sets and upholds engineering and manufacturing standards of practice. The Engineering Director is accountable for prioritizing the workflow and resources in this fast-paced department, optimizing production costs, and efficiency, and improving product quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other job-related duties may be assigned in compliance with state and federal regulations.

• Analyzing and identifying the strengths and limitations of existing manufacturing processes
• Exploring and assessing potential improvements in product design and manufacturing line processes
• Overseeing implementation of new systems, including enterprise resource planning (ERP) and associated variable Bill of Material (BOM) and design software.
• Designing new production systems, including facility planning
• Establishing guidelines to ensure the product line efficiency and optimum resource utilization
• Working with production personnel and managers to ensure the proper implementation of the set guidelines
• Overseeing the design of new products and working with design teams to create prototypes
• Working with cross-functional teams to provide information and other contributions to business decisions
• Guidance in the procurement process for raw materials
• Establishing current and long-range objectives, plans, and policies.
• Reviewing operating results of the organization, comparing them to established objectives, and taking steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results.
• Creating technical budgets, allocating resources, and determining the schedule of project deadlines.
• Establishing and maintaining an effective system of communications throughout the organization.
• Supervising the documentation of all requirements for implementation of design/revisions, and all quality standards to be followed.
• Supervising the engineering team and providing support, feedback, training, and mentorship to engineering and cross-functional team members.
• Reviewing final product designs for accuracy, intent, and practical application.
• Performing duties in a safe manner; wearing required PPE when appropriate.
• Observe and comply with all the provisions of the ISO 9000 QMS.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Oversees an engineering team of eight (8) including mechanical engineers, automation technicians, and engineering technicians.

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from a four-year college or university and 10+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and line management experience. A professional Engineer (P.E.) license is strongly preferred.
