Engineering Team Lead – Ag Equipment Validation
Great Plains Manufacturing is seeking an Engineering Team Lead for Ag Equipment Validation.
Regular hours for this position are Mon-Thurs from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (4-day workweek). This position is based in our facility in Assaria, KS.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with product engineering teams do deliver innovative, productive, and reliable equipment to Great Plains’ customers
  • Validate new ag equipment designs to ensure that they meet performance and reliability targets.
  • Develop test methods and criteria to measure machine performance
  • Work with team to assemble prototypes and provide documentation to design engineering on issues discovered and ideas to improve assembly efficiency
  • Lead lab testing team on execution of tests including: structural analysis with strain gauges, fold and lift cycle testing, seed rate testing, bump wheel testing, bump track testing, hydraulic system testing, electrical system testing, and other specialized component tests
  • Work with Electrical Engineering team to perform software validation testing
  • Work with Validation Team and Design Engineering Team Leads to determine prototype field test requirements, and execute field testing to discover product weaknesses and root cause of any failures
  • Ensure detailed documentation of test procedures and results, and communicate those to design team in a clear and timely manner
  • Expand lab and field test capabilities to meet future needs, including writing capital expense proposals.
  • Work with design engineering teams on design revisions to improve machine performance and durability
  • Attend regular new product council and engineering team meetings to report on prototype performance and acceptability
  • Assist Great Plains Sales, Marketing, Service, Manufacturing, and Quality departments as needed
  • Perform competitive analysis and benchmarking of competitive products
  • Evaluate team member performance and coach team members for improvement

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, agricultural engineering, or related technical field
  • Experience operating large agricultural equipment
  • 5 plus years’ experience within a design engineering team
  • Experience with data acquisition systems such as Somat eDAQ
  • Experience with strain gauges and other sensors
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to diverse audiences
  • Computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Windchill
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to safely troubleshoot/diagnose problems
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis and proper strain gauge application
  • Strong team building skills
  • Willingness to travel out of state for multiple days during peak seasons
