POSITION SUMMARY:

The Environmental Specialist position maintains a thorough working knowledge of current environmental regulations as applied to construction projects within states MPLX G&P operates. This position will be responsible to manage environmental permitting associated with construction projects and communicate progress and challenges to Project Groups. The Environmental Specialist position will be required to implement existing and new corporate-wide and department directives in support of MPLX Capital Project teams as they pertain to environmental construction permits and requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for managing all environmental permitting associated with earth disturbance activities including but not limited to: new pipeline rights-of-way, valve sites, extra workspaces, compressor stations, processing plants, overhead power lines, access roads, pipeline integrity digs, cathodic protection installations, etc.
  • Responsible for coordination and planning of pre-construction environmental assessments/due-diligence documentation work including infiltration testing (where necessary), aquatic resource delineations, threatened and endangered & candidate species investigations, eagles/raptors and migratory bird documentation, and cultural resource and archaeological investigations.
  • Ensure Section 401/404, construction stormwater permits, floodplain development permits, and hydrostatic test discharge applications are accurate and complete prior to submission.
  • Ensure environmental due-diligence reports and stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP) are complete and accurate for projects.
  • Submit, track, and maintain hydrostatic discharge permit discharge monitoring reports on a quarterly basis.
  • Attend and participate in Capital Project group meetings.
  • Track and communicate environmental progress status and challenges (as encountered) on capital projects.
  • Communicate recommendations to the project groups to maximize environmental permitting efficiency.
  • Perform environmental permitting training to internal project groups.
  • Work with Environmental Compliance Coordinator to generate and file permit notice of terminations.
  • Attend preapplication meetings and conduct site visits with regulatory agencies.
  • Attend preconstruction meetings.
  • Assist Environmental Compliance Coordinator on compliance tasks as necessary.
  • Review and approve SSHEP, HDD contingency Plan, Bore Products, Source Water, and Waste Facilities for projects as necessary.
  • Provide field coordination, review, and approval for any environmental modifications.
  • Travel expectations: up to 20%

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required with 10 years of relevant environmental experience in a process industry (e.g. refining, midstream, petrochemical or other heavy industrial); or bachelor’s degree in a HES related field with 5 years relevant environmental experience; or bachelor’s degree in engineering with 2 years relevant environmental experience.
  • Ability to monitor compliance with environmental regulations
  • Ability to develop business acumen and technical knowledge
  • Must hold a valid Driver License with excellent driving record
  • Must be able to complete Health Questionnaire and pass drug test and background check.
