World Language Department Philosophy

The World Language Department exemplifies many of the finest attributes that independent schools offer to students. Desired Skills & Qualifications

French teacher duties and responsibilities include:

  • Willingness and desire to teach at different levels. This position primarily focuses on lower and middle school students.
  • Preparation and implementation of daily lessons, delivery of assignments, and timely evaluation of all relevant class work and student progress.
  • Design and implementation of appropriate, authentic assessments and support of individual student learning styles.
  • An understanding of and ability to teach using an inquiry based approach.
  • Experience with early years, lower school or elementary aged students preferred.
  • Timely and proactive communication with parents about student progress.
  • Serving as an advisor or class sponsor.
  • Collaboration with other members of the faculty, administration, and staff on experiential, interdisciplinary, and community-based opportunities that add to the school community.
  • Active participation in all faculty and staff meetings.
  • Effective and timely communication with varied school constituencies in person, through email, and through voicemail.
  • Support of divisional and school-wide initiatives through committee work, where appropriate.
  • Supervision and/or participation in occasional non-academic activities, including lunch, study hall, and carpool arrival and dismissal.

Required Qualifications:

  • Near-­native fluency in French and/or a bachelor’s or master’s degree in elementary education, general education, or French language.
  • Must possess or be willing to work to acquire and maintain a State of Nebraska issued teaching certificate.

A minimum of five years teaching experience is preferred. The successful candidate will also possess a positive attitude, excellent written and verbal skills, strong organizational skills, and proven success within a work setting that requires collaboration, cooperation, and collegiality. The candidate must possess or be willing to acquire and maintain a State of Nebraska issued teaching certificate.
