IT Desktop Support Specialist, Shawano, Wisconsin

Shawano Municipal Utilities, a municipal electric utility serving 5,900 customers in the City of Shawano and surrounding townships, is looking for a skilled Desktop Support Specialist to join its IT team.

As the Desktop Support Specialist, you will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of the organization’s P.C. hardware and support of standard application software. Our ideal candidate will perform first level support for users having problems using standard computer resources and analyze user needs. Candidates must be energetic, focused and motivated to learn new technologies and maintenance processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with IT users and vendors
• Passion for teamwork, continuing education and IT problem solving
• Well spoken, outgoing, organized, detailed-orientated, dependable, and flexible
• Valid driver's license
• 2 years of IT experience in a similar environment
• Technology related certifications are a plus
• Experience with Cat6 installation and termination a plus
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies a plus
• Associate degree Preferred

This Position:

• Diagnosing and resolving technical issues with hardware or software systems
• Consulting with users over the phone, in person or online chat to troubleshoot technical issues
• Assessing user needs and recommending technical solutions such as patches, upgrades, or enhancements
• Documenting technical support procedures and maintaining customer records
• Responding promptly to queries and providing information on the proper installation, maintenance, and use of technical systems
• Completing thorough installations on the client environment by taking backups of data, upgrading systems as needed and installing new software or hardware solutions
• Assist with IT related projects for City and Utility departments
• Assist with maintenance of Fiber network infrastructure
• Provides support for Microsoft Office products
• Share rotation of after-hours, weekend, and holiday on-call duties

Starting base hourly range is: $20 – $25 (DOQ)
