Summary

The Lead Licensed Clinical Social Worker supervises the Mental Health Case Workers and works closely with them to oversee the development and implementation of psychoeducational groups based on the needs presented by residents. This position ensures that there is continuity of care and residents are provided appropriate behavioral health treatment (i.e., appropriate referrals are made to psychologist and/or psychiatry) and that treatment plans have been developed as appropriate. It provides psychoeducational and/or psychotherapy groups which are trauma informed and maintains communication links between the treatment clinic providers, families, guardians, medical department, and community providers as appropriate. This position also works closely with the Mental Health Case Workers and residents to develop a plan for continuity of care upon release.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• The Lead Licensed Clinical Social Worker supervises the Mental Health Case Workers including monitoring their schedule and providing daily direction regarding the completion of job tasks.
• The Lead Licensed Clinical Social Worker ensures the completion of initial assessments, review of health records, development of treatment plans, completion of treatment consent forms, and ensuring continuity of care among behavioral health clinicians.
• Oversees the development of psychoeducational programs designed to improve coping and social skills in addition to level of adjustment at the facility.
• Provides initial assessment in response to resident requests and staff referrals in addition to psychotherapy as appropriate.
• Complete assessments of suicide risk as appropriate and work closely with psychologist in providing ongoing treatment of residents who have been placed on suicide watch.
• Makes referrals to the psychologist and psychiatry as appropriate.
• Participates in the performance improvement and quality review process.
• Coordinates internal and external trainings for peers.
• Assists with updating policies and procedures to include forms relating to visitation, disposition board, psychosocial and release planning.
• Assists with or delegate coverage for team meetings.
• Works closely with the Psychologist to coordinate teamwork between both disciplines. Communicate concerns related to the department to the Health Services Administrator in a manner that is team-spirited, positive, and productive.
• Develops and implements interventions for barriers to release, documents all direct and collateral contacts into the medical record, advocates and negotiates internal and external systems on behalf of the resident within the scope of clinical training and consistent with professional standards.
• Seeks to enhance the capacity of residents to address their own needs. Utilize all resident contact as opportunities for therapeutic intervention.
• Cooperates with colleagues to serve the well-being of the residents. Participates in and contributes to decisions that affect the well-being of the residents. Seeks the advice and counsel of colleagues when it is in the best interests of residents. Attends department meetings and participates actively in problem solving and idea sharing within department.
• Applies sensitivity to cultural diversity issues, treats residents as an individual, and considers the culture of the residents when providing care and treatment.
• Applies knowledge about care and treatment needs to residents of different ages.
• Provides individualized care and treatment that is consistent with/sensitive to the age and life span developmental needs of each resident.
• Assists in the improvement of the facility’s service delivery.
