The Manufacturing Support Engineer is responsible for providing technical support for all facets of the manufacturing environment. This includes technical expertise related to troubleshooting and repair of customer facing products, as well as in-house manufacturing equipment. Additionally, the Manufacturing Support Engineer is directly involved in development of new production processes, and continuous improvement of existing processes. As such, occasional travel may be required to assist in implementing new or improved processes at regional offices or customer locations around the world. Works closely with Engineering and Production Manager to establish relevant process controls and maintains metrics to evaluate the effectivity of those controls. The Manufacturing Support Engineer may be required to assist in routine production tasks from time to time, as demand requires.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Troubleshooting and diagnosis of electro-mechanical assemblies

• Troubleshoots electronics to the component level to determine cause and remedy of any malfunction
• Recognizes failures and set up problems, isolates the problem(s), and takes appropriate action to resolve the issues
• Provides mentoring/training as required

Process implementation

• Work with engineering provided outlines to generate new process documentation
• Evaluate tooling requirements and work with engineering and management to design/procure needed equipment
• Work with engineering and management to create employee training plans for new processes

Process Improvement

• Monitor and evaluate existing processes to identify potential improvements
• Make suggestions to engineering/management for process improvements
• When approved, be the champion for implementing recommended process improvements

Process evaluation

• Create and/or maintain a system of process metrics for production processes.
• Work with engineering and management to determine appropriate control limits
• Monitor production processes to identify trends away from control limits, and propose actions to repair the process.

Electronics assembly

• Complete new top-level electronics assemblies by following established procedures
• Modify existing PCB assemblies by removing, adding, and/or replacing circuit board components

QHSE Responsibilities

KEY ESSENTIAL SKILLS / COMPETENCIES

1. Experience in leadership positions is a must

2. Experience in process control, process improvement, new product introduction, etc.

3. Experience with Quality Control charts, data collection, and programs

4. Advanced training in electronic theory received at a technical trade school, military training, or an Associate Degree Program

5. Must be able to exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action

6. Professional, clear verbal, and written communication

7. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

8. Excellent soldering and rework skills (surface mount and through hole)

9. Must have experience using the following equipment: DVM, oscilloscopes, PC’s, function generator, power supplies, and hand tools,

10. Experience with moderate mechanical repairs and modifications

11. Must be able to lift 50-70 lbs.

12. Experience in heavy industry or oil & gas is helpful

13. Experience with gyros and accelerometers is very helpful

14. Troubleshooting to component level of power supplies both linear and switching. Also troubleshooting op amp circuits, digital, and analog circuits to component level is critical
