Job Description :

Responsible for the operational resources for the PACS/CR.DR systems. Maintains current and future digital radiology systems in working order. Ensures proper use of the systems by the Diagnostic Imaging staff. Acts as a liaison in digital imaging initiatives within the department and other departments. Assists in the development of department policies and procedures. Assess technologist work and workflow for increase safety and efficiencies. Assists in performing diagnostic procedures when needed. Will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and manages the department during the director's absence.


1. Critical and Analytical Thinking

  • Analyzes and maintains the integrity of the digital image flow from capture, transmission, storage, and soft and hard copy display to assure image quality excellence.
  • Plans and coordinates the activities of the DR, CR, and PACS (PACS/DRS) system’s software implementation schedules, tailoring, report development and ongoing support, in a variety of applications and software packages.
  • Analyzes user needs to determine programming necessary to plan, update, flowchart, write, test, debug, document, and audit programs and operational procedures.
  • Implements process improvements to include flowcharting current workflow and propose redesign workflow in the digital environment.
  • Evaluates and recommends various hardware and software solutions to meet user needs.
  • Resolves problems when predefined solutions do not exist.

2. Technical Skills

  • Maintains PACS/DRS files, menus, tables and parameters.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance with IT and outside vendors to solve simple PACS/DRS corrective measures.
  • Works with Information Technology (IT) to integrate the PACS and RIS systems to SITE HIS system.
  • Assures 24/7 operation of the PACS/DRS systems.

3. Communication (Oral and Written)

  • Develops and updates PACS/DRS procedure manual as required.
  • Develops, implements and documents the training of new employees on the use of PACS/DRS systems.
  • Maintains professional contacts with vendors.
  • Interacts with users and vendors through various phases of design, implementation, and maintenance for smooth operation and efficient workflow.
  • Assists customers with display and application issues.
  • Provides yearly updates on new and/or upgraded features of PACS/DRS systems.
  • Meets with all consumers of PACS/DRS information to understand their needs and manage opportunities for improvement.
  • Assists in the development of annual and long range plans for PACS/DRS needs.

4. Leadership and Professional Accountability

  • Coordinates teams to assume proper and efficient implementation of the RIS and PACS installations.
  • Represents Radiology to RIS and PACS/DRS conferences.
  • Participates in corporate teams and committees with other systems specialists to assure compliance with corporate initiatives, interfaces, IT issues, upgrades, and future equipment decisions.
  • Works with IT Department to provide optimized IT solutions to the PACS system.
  • Takes ownership of problems, tracks issues to completion ensuring customer satisfaction.

5. Quality

  • Interfaces with programmers to assure specifications are reflected in code.
  • Performs thorough program/unit testing and assists with project testing.
  • Identifies and maintains all PACS quality control systems.
  • Supervises design of forms and reports for maximum clarity

6. Citizenship

  • Adheres to all Medical Center policies and procedures (i.e. Administrative and Human Resources), practices safe work habits, and engages in good business skills.

7. Other Job Functions

  • Participates on ongoing safety education programs.
  • Pursues continuing education

8. Performs other duties as assigned.


Education: Work requires knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a two-year Radiologic Technology training program approved by the AMA and training with PACS systems.

Licensure: CRT and ARRT certification preferred.

Experience: At least five years of clinical and digital imaging services experience is required. Knowledge of PACS

hardware and software is preferred. Supervisory experience is required. #IND1

The hourly rate for this position is $49.14 - $61.43. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
