Position Summary

The Payroll Manager is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and reviewing payroll processes and systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of timecards and payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, changes to pay rates, and transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. They will oversee and mentor the organization's payroll team.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Hire and train new staff in the department.
  • Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Management of payroll team, including training and development

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
  • Create trusted relationships with both office and field team members, coaching leaders on best practices and payroll laws, respond timely to concerns, and develop processes that are efficiently executed
  • Review established payroll-related workflow, policies, procedures, and systems to ensure effectiveness.
  • Provide internal reporting information to various stakeholders and management teams.
  • Manage and maintain all employee information in electronic files, paper files, and accounting systems.
  • Manage all benefit and other deduction calculations and set up within the accounting system.
  • Other ad-hoc duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function, including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Washington and Oregon payroll laws.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Strong ability in MS Word and Excel.
  • Proficient skill in payroll systems such as QuickBooks.
  • Punctual attendance and strong attention to detail and dates.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform tasks without supervision, self-starter, and independently motivated.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Experience may substitute education.
  • Three to five years of related experience is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $59,385.00 per year
