Job Description:
Summary of Job: Manage the daily activities of the payroll services team to ensure that the bi-weekly payroll is processed accurately and timely. This position also provides leadership, input, and oversight of enterprise strategic projects as they relate to payroll and tax compliance.

Job Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years’ experience managing an in-house multi-state payroll department
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll administration including federal, state, and local wage and tax regulations in a multi-state environment
  • Experience with using Workday and ADP Smart Compliance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively present facts and recommendations in verbal and written forms
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and practices
  • Ability to formulate policy and document standard operating procedures
  • Good understanding of an integrated HCM/Payroll system, prefer familiarity with Workday
  • Solution-oriented with sound problem-solving abilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or related field
  • Certified Payroll Professional designation

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage and guarantee disbursement of bi-weekly payroll to approximately 3700 employees, ensuring compliance with federal and state wage and hour laws, wage assignments, and union contracts. Develops and manages procedures for the preparation, documentation, and disbursement of payroll checks, taxes, wage withholding orders, and benefit deduction payments. Manage the payroll help desk ticketing system. Enhance existing department processes by establishing best practices, implementing automation, and streamlining workflow. Manage accurate and timely processing of W-2s and other year-end activities, including coordination with external payroll tax service provider. Manage regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, paid time off accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.). Support internal and external audit processes as required. Partner with HR, Benefits, Systems Analysts, and Finance to review cross-departmental impacts, strategy, and reconcile data sharing related to payroll. Work collaboratively to implement changes leading to best-in-class operations. Set a tone of collaboration among the payroll team, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to provide a high level of customer service. Coach and mentors payroll team members; manages staff by assigning work according to availability, skills, and developmental needs; assesses performance and provides feedback to direct reports. Other duties as assigned.

Compensation range: $71,531 - $89,419 (additional compensation considered for vast experience)
