The Specialty Minerals (SMI) segment produces and sells the synthetic mineral product precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC), mines mineral ores and processes and sells natural mineral products, primarily limestone and talc. This segment's products are used principally in the paper, building materials, paint and coatings, glass, ceramic, polymer, food, automotive and pharmaceutical industries.

Position: Plant Controller
Location: USA | Adams, MA
Summary:
The Plant Controller is responsible for providing financial leadership and guidance to Performance Minerals’ Adams, MA and Canaan, CT operations to ensure growth targets are attained. This includes, but not limited to: (1) Ensuring compliance with US GAAP and SOX controls, (2) Cost accounting and variance analysis administration (3) planning, organizing and supervising the monthly close process (4) budget preparation and review; (5) monthly and quarterly financial forecast development (6) capital spend analysis (7) performing financial evaluations to aid decision making (8) assisting VP Finance with divisional reporting and analysis.
Responsibilities:
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
General

Participates in the preparation and review of the annual plant budget and associated reviews.

Recommends and implements improvements relating to all financial reporting aspects of the plant.

Prepares weekly/monthly reporting to facilitate plant financial reviews

Analyzes business trends to provide explanations for the past and provide guidance for future

Evaluate performance of plant activities and ensure achievement of growth targets

Assist management and executives to achieve business objectives

Assist VP Finance with divisional reporting and analysis

Other duties as assigned
Cost Accounting, Financial Planning, Reporting, and Analysis
Coordinates and implements the monthly closing process, including variance analysis-
Assists with the preparation, evaluation, and review of capital projects, including follow-up audits.

Prepares monthly financial reviews, forecasts, and annual financial plan.

Performs financial evaluations/discounted cash flow analysis to assist decision making

Ensure adherence to US GAAP, Sarbanes Oxley, and Corporate Policies

Manages and improves cash flow and working capital metrics

Develops standard costs for production

Monitors ledger reconciliations

Works in conjunction with MTI’s shared services team to ensure accurate and timely reporting
OE/Lean
Actively participates in the implementation of sustainable improvement processes, such as 5S, Kaizen, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Daily Management Control, Standard Work and Problem Solving

Qualifications:

Education: Minimum 5 years in a leadership position, controllership or combination of assistant controller or accounting manager experience. 3-5 years of plant accounting experience. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline. Experience with Oracle and ESSBASE a plus.
Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to regularly conduct work in a controlled office environment, moving around the office as needed, sitting at a desk, and using office equipment, including but not limited to a personal computer, fax, copier and phone. Constant contact with individuals internal and external to the organization occurs via various methods of communication typically including face-to-face discussions, electronic mail, phone calls, written letters and/or faxes. Occasionally there will be exposure to plant production areas, which includes exposure to outside weather conditions as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from production processes. Exposure to plant areas requires the use of appropriate safety equipment. Personal protective equipment is available for employee use in these circumstances.
Travel Required: If based in Bethlehem, PA regular travel to Adams, MA will be required.

Safety Training: A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is to be provided New Employee Training from a qualified individual, which consists of classroom training and may include a tour of plant area(s). Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate and/or as dictated by MSHA/OSHA regulations.
