SUMMARY OF POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Product Manager is primarily responsible for strategically driving the life cycle of a product from market needs analysis & idea conception through development, launch, market share capture and finally end-of-life. This is accomplished in collaboration with executive, engineering/design, operations, finance and sales personnel; and requires excellent communications, organization and team-work skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • With the input from Market Managers and other sources for market intelligence, anticipate the future applications needs of customers and determine the short- and long-term strategies and tactics for the successful marketing of the product line(s). This is documented in the product roadmap.
  • In coordination with Engineering, define the technology roadmap and make sure it aligns with the product roadmap.
  • Initiate, help drive and prioritize new product or technology development projects.
  • Maintain an expert understanding and knowledge of the product line including functions, features, benefits, design aspects, possible areas of differentiation, pricing, positioning and marketing techniques.
  • Initiate and manage private label agreements with suppliers and customers.
  • Explore and recommend the need for Joint Development activities with other companies.

The successful individual for the Product Management position must be self- motivated, detailed oriented, organized, results-focused and capable of managing multiple projects at any given time. Daily responsibilities include working hand-in-hand with Business Development Managers, Sales, other Product Managers as well as with peers in other departments, such as Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials & Quality.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TheProduct Manager Position is divided into the following areas of functional responsibility with percentages assigned to indicate the amount of time spent on each area. Thus, it is anticipated that the Product Manager will:

60% Plan, execute, oversee and direct activities concerned with all aspects of strategic management of the product lifecycle. This may include working with Engineering, Sales, Business Development, Manufacturing, and Distribution of the product lines; utilizing state-of-the-art knowledge of product technologies and production methodologies, as well as a thorough knowledge of customers and markets served. Specific responsibilities include:

· Act as the key authority and point of contact for project development concepts, business strategy and business models.

· Work with project managers to create and implement a comprehensive project development plan including schedules, cost targets, technical requirements and risks from product development to launch. Define risks and mitigations

· Collect, analyze and report on data and make adjustments to development plans as needed to facilitate a successful new product rollout.

· Represent the voice of the customer throughout the development process.

· Prepare project assessments and make recommendations whether or not to proceed with project at initiation and during milestone reviews.

· Ensure that all technical requirements are met during each phase of product development.

· Monitor competitor activities, product portfolios, and pricing to assure competitiveness.

· Set product line list prices for domestic markets and, collaborating with the Regional Sales Organizations and Global Sales Process organization, determine international market-based pricing.

· Improve our market position.

· Ensure compliance to corporate guidelines for discounts and margin levels

30% Travel with the intent to:

· Coordinate efforts with Sales / Marketing/Business Development activities in giving product presentations, helping close sales opportunities or consulting on product installations at customer locations

· Attend and work at trade shows and conventions.

· Generate, maintain and give product training presentations at select sales meetings and other venues.

10% Measure, track and report performance of each product line. Determine appropriate corrective actions if performance results negatively deviate from expectations.

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, the Product Manager may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions as determined jointly between the Product Manager and her/his direct supervisor. These additional functions may include:

· Support Key Account Managers with product-specific key account management, including – at times – leading the sales effort when a higher level of product knowledge is required to succeed.

· Prepare proposals and help negotiate OEM contract pricing

· Prepare correspondence to keep peers and supervisors abreast of product line activities and issues.

· Schedule and conduct meetings, including issuing of meeting notes and clear action items.

· Rally support for and persuade others in acceptance of desired product changes and improvements.

· Work with Marketing in the creation of advertisements, catalogs or other printed collateral.

· Attend and present materials at regularly scheduled Product Managers’ meetings.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

The Product Manager must possess and demonstrate the following combination of knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation (or accepted alternatives).

· Must have strong organizational and time-management skills in order to prioritize and complete competing multiple tasks simultaneously.

· Must have ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with coworkers, customers, and other departmental personnel in a professional and positive manner.

· Must have excellent presentation skills in a variety of settings, primarily for customer or sales presentation purposes.

· Requires strong ability to work with others to share specific knowledge of products, processes and/or procedures in order to continuously make improvements.

· Ability to lead, influence and persuade relevant decision makers, throughout all levels of the organization, as well as relevant decision makers within customers’ organizations.

· Familiarity with manufacturing documentation processes and MRP/ERP systems

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Experience: Any combination of education, training and relevant experience equivalent to a minimum of the following:

a) BS in Engineering or BS/BA in Business Administration; plus 48-months specific, technically related business experience; with an additional 12-months of experience in vacuum related Product Line Management; or

b) Associate degree in Business Administration, or a technically related field; plus 60-months specific, technically related business experience; with an additional 24-months of experience in vacuum related Product Line/s Management; or

c) Product Management Certification with the equivalent relevant work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position

Safety: 85% inside, climate / noise controlled office, and 15% manufacturing environment or traveling; lifting to 50 lbs on occasion. Eye and hearing protection may be required in manufacturing areas; and additional protective clothing may be required when visiting customer sites.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $111,212.00 - $120,520.00 per year
