Division Description:
The Green Bay Mill Division is a vertically integrated paper mill that manufactures containerboard using 100% recycled furnish. The operation consists of one paper machine responsible for the production of linerboard and medium paper used to manufacture corrugated boxes. This family-owned mill is located near the mouth of the Fox River in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Maintenance & Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer will have management responsibilities for assigned projects and related tasks. This person must work closely with other GBMD personnel, contractors, and vendors to successfully execute projects. The Project Engineer will coordinate project planning, execution, start-up, and closure according to strict deadlines and budget.
Responsibilities:
- Applying knowledge of safety, housekeeping, and environmental regulations as they relate to industrial projects
- Effectively working with Operations, Maintenance, and/or other departmental groups, meeting their needs while always focusing on the successful implementation of the overall project
- Facilitating or delegating tasks appropriately
- Understanding & managing projects other than those with purely mechanical discipline (manage the experts)
- Reviewing mechanical specifications and performing bid evaluations for new equipment
- Reviewing vendor drawings for specification compliance
- Providing engineering support to upgrade or repair existing equipment
- Monitoring the type of work described above when performed by outside contractor engineers and designers, for specification compliance, timeliness, and cost effectiveness
- Researching and analyzing design proposals, specifications, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
- Managing various projects from small expense to large capital
- Coordinating internal resources and third parties/vendors for project execution
- Monitoring design progress and ensure deliverables are met in adherence to established project key components
- Managing adherence to project scope and securing approvals for all changes in projects
- Developing equipment performance requirements and specifications and conducting technology reviews
- Creating and maintaining project documentation
- Managing data collection and feedback process for projects
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Engineering, Civil Engineering, or similar study
- Three to five years of project or construction management experience in the pulp and paper industry, or some near equivalent
- Working knowledge of how projects flow through various phases, and how to manage each of these phases to completion
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively deliver and reinforce consistent messages at all levels
- Understanding of process piping and plumbing system design concepts; how to design, install, and troubleshoot
- Working knowledge of ASME and API codes for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, and piping systems
- Strong team player who can effectively work with others to meet objectives and timelines
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including periods of time in noisy, dusty, hot or cold environments
- Prioritization of time and department/project work; ability to multitask
- Use of self-initiative and independence to complete tasks with urgency and meet deadlines
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
In addition, the ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Project support experience in a manufacturing environment
- Completion of Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
- Experience using AutoCAD and SolidWorks products
