Position Summary & Primary Responsibilities

The Property Accountant applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information, record general ledger entries, reconcile account balances and prepare financial reports.

  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare and record entries to general ledger accounts
  • Documents business transactions
  • Balances monthly activity, e.g., cash receipts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, gross potential rent and vacancy to the general ledger
  • Completes monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts to include cash and escrows held with financial institutions
  • Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital
  • Prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected property financial position
  • Examines records to determine that acquisition, sale, and other entries have been made
  • Prepares and reviews statements reflecting monthly property operations
  • Summarizes statements on an annual basis for income tax purposes
  • Prepares audit packages and assists with auditor's requests related to properties accounted for on a monthly basis
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (BA) in Accounting, or one to two years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Property management experience preferred
