Quality Engineer

Position Summary

The Quality Engineer is responsible for the support of manufacturing operations to drive compliance to standards, regulations, procedures, work Instructions, efficiencies, and continuous improvements. Develops and documents quality plans and procedures. Works within Quality, Operations, and Engineering with regards to the New Product Introduction process in order to develop Product and Process FMEA’s.

Works with Operations, Engineering, and others to resolve quality issues and improve areas of high-quality cost. Assists Engineering and Purchasing in the establishment of quality requirements for current and new suppliers and subcontractors. Designs and conducts studies to determine cause of quality non-conformances and recommends changes to processes, equipment, tooling, and environment. Leads by example to adhere to and continuously improve the quality system and quality driven behaviors to influence strong quality values in all employees and suppliers. Is a resource to production teams as a subject matter expert in external standards/regulations and internal quality systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs hands on mechanical inspection as needed to assist the team.
  • Develops SOPs and training materials. Conducts training sessions on quality control activities.
  • Plans, conducts, and may “lead and direct”, critical company projects.
  • Provides team guidance as to inspection method best practices.
  • Serves as advisor and mentor to lower-level personnel and will assist with the performance review process.
  • Programs digital inspection equipment including vision systems and CMM.
  • Works directly with customers to perform requested quality assurance verifications including FAI, PPAP, and co· Conducts and supports investigations of manufacturing nonconformities; recommends, develops, and implements effective corrective actions.
  • Develops and implements product quality plans including control plans and FMEAs.
  • Supports the Quality Manager and Engineering Manager in administration of the document control system.
  • Assists in Quality Management System internal audits.
  • Leads the (MRB) Material Review Board.
  • Assists/Leads continuous improvement projects to support the overall goals of the company.
  • Drives improvements to the quality system to maintain ISO/AS9100 registrations.
  • Data gathering and analysis to:
  • Perform trend analysis and initiate continuous improvements.
  • Creates reports and performance metrics for scrap, PPM, supplier quality, (COPQ) cost of poor quality etc.
  • Participates in contract review to establish customer quality requirements and flow down strategies to suppliers.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Years of Experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ related experience
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer/Certified Quality Auditor or similar industry a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical process control capability
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and understands GD&T.
  • Demonstrated experience in basic inspection and testing of machined components using mechanical inspection methods.
  • Demonstrated experience in CMM programming.
  • Experience in leading quality teams and programs.
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001 or AS9100 quality programs and experience as an internal auditor a plus.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Power Point in order to develop reject summary Pareto’s, charts, data gathering, trend analysis, action plans.
  • Ability to work in a team environment across all disciplines.
  • Prior experience in a machine shop environment is a plus.
  • Excellent Communication skills to professionally relate to team members, customers and suppliers regarding complaint and non-conformance issues
