Research and Development Chemist – Entry Level

Job Description

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of R&D, this position has the responsibility formulate, test and reverse engineer personal care products that are safe, cost-effective and manufactural.

Responsibilities:

• Have a working knowledge of basic laboratory equipment.
• Be able to formulate cosmetic products, original and NBE.
• Maintain a clean an orderly workstation.
• Be able to interpret test results i.e., micro, stability, challenge testing.
• Understand cost, pricing and meet those expectations.
• Stay abreast in new technologies that may be opportunities for the company and its customers.
• Interface with customers on a regular basis to ensure that the lab is meeting expectations.
• Interface with chemical vendors on a regular basis to ensure the lab has all the materials necessary to complete their assignments.
• Maintain a working knowledge of all Sigan America policies, procedures and testing requirements.
• Uphold and model cultural values of dignity and respect.
• Perform other tasks as required under the direction of the Manager of R&D.

Occupational Requirements

Qualifications / Certifications:

- BS Degree in Chemistry, Biology or other related science.

- 1-3 years’ experience in R&D laboratory.

- 3-5 years R&D lab experience without degree.

Skills / Knowledge:

- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal communication and
cooperation skills, problem solving/analytical skill sets and teamwork. Ability to interact with
customers and promote collaboration.

Effort – Physical:

A full gambit of physical activity is required including standing, walking, stair climbing, sitting, computer operation, occasional lifting or pulling up to 50 pounds.

Effort – Mental:

Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Planning, problem solving, interpersonal communication, mathematics, troubleshooting and investigation. Focus and managing changing priorities is key. Good report writing ability. Needs minimum of supervision to accomplish complicated projects.
