Our design team needs an experienced sign designer able to transform customer ideas and specifications into attractive finished product concepts and turn out high-quality renderings as well as detailed shop drawings. A thorough understanding of sign construction materials and techniques including vinyl printing and cutting, routing and engraving files, substrates and color specifications is required - but even more important is the creativity that makes the customer say I want that! and our team proud of the completed product. You must be able to work efficiently with our sales people, production team and permitting specialist.

Beyond common post-and-panel signs, Lykins Signtek builds internally illuminated signs, channel letters, directory signs, pylon signs, monument walls etc. from scratch. These are large, sometimes complex structures, and key mechanical construction details are an integral part of the drawings produced by our designers. Please understand that a background in graphic / web / print design only is inadequate to be successful. A minimum of 3 years of relevant sign industry design experience with a balance of creative design and solid technical drafting skills is a prerequisite. We use LXI (FlexiSign) as our primary design software, Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop to process customer art and files, Roland and HP printers and Graphtec plotters, MS Office, ShopVox. Laser engraver, 3D printer, or CNC router experience would be a plus. A technical degree or substantial coursework in architectural design, mechanical drafting, construction technology, or industrial design is preferred but not required.

This position requires the ability to:

• rapidly learn and retain company design and fabrication standards and practices
• correctly interpret design requirements including sign ordinances
• work independently and with a sense of urgency to meet hard deadlines
• handle a heavy design workload
• adjust efficiently to changing priorities and schedules

as well as strong organizational, record keeping, problem solving and communication skills.
