The Opportunity:


Ideal Energy is seeking a qualified Electrical Engineer (PE) with experience in renewable energy to serve as a senior member of the Department of Design and Engineering. The Electrical Engineer will serve as a technical subject matter expert in the development and implementation of solar and energy storage projects for commercial, industrial and utility customers. The Electrical Engineer will review project specifications and requirements, develop technology studies and costing models and provide technical support to the teams involved in project development.


What You’ll Do:


  • Perform system modeling and engineering for large commercial, industrial, and utility-scale solar PV and energy storage systems
  • Review interconnection drawings and application packages for compliance with relevant utility standards and regulatory obligations
  • Develop and maintain best practices, technical standards, and tools to be used by Ideal Energy’s Department of Design and Engineering
  • Develop and maintain relationships with AHJs, electrical utilities, and vendors to stay current on codes, standards, new technologies, jurisdictional/utility requirements, and industry best practices
  • Attend field design meetings with clients and utility companies as needed
  • Lead cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality and compliance with national, local, and client-specific requirements
  • Contribute to technical papers
  • Demonstrate exemplary ethics and professionalism at all times



About You:


  • Project experience including project development and permitting, conceptual and detailed design, project engineering, scheduling, cost estimating, procurement, and contracts
  • Excellent technical understanding of grid-tied photovoltaic systems and commercial energy storage technologies including: panels, inverters, monitoring & communications, and energy storage technologies
  • Experience designing and building PV and energy storage systems
  • Experience with performing modeling and load calculations
  • Experience with single line designs
  • Ability to work with and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams of all levels and competencies
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Must thrive in a team environment with excellent interpersonal and time management skills
  • Electrical PE Certification Required
  • BSEE, MSEE (preferred) or other Engineering plus relevant experience in a related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ electrical experience, preferred in the renewable energy industry
  • Expertise in relevant codes and standards including National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and other CAD software
  • Willingness to travel as required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Must be willing and able to climb ladders and stairs when required on site visits
  • Must be able to wear PPE as required for specific clients and sites
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Location & Schedule:

This will be an in-office position and will include travel to our job-sites within the midwest. Our office hours are 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
