Truss Designer JOS2003 - IL
Starting Base Salary: $60 - 80K

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for designing roof and floor truss systems using Alpine software.
• Attendance is consistent and predictable in accordance with the work schedule.
• Consistently demonstrates an effort to keep the workplace efficient and organized.
• Ensures efficient and proper material use based on current inventory levels and material costs.
• Delivers designs on all assigned jobs on time and in accordance with the plan and quote specifications.
• Through proper design and adequate notation, ensures efficient production in accordance with plant capabilities.
• Meets with job site supervisors to resolve design/engineering issues as they arise; travel to job sites may be required on occasion.
• On a job-by-job basis, keeps detailed records and reports on related information. Reduces operating costs through skilled drafting procedures.
• Manage duties that are likely to be assigned to a specific person unless they prove unable to perform them after receiving appropriate training and/or accommodations.
• Ensure that truss designs are accurately input based on customer plans, while optimizing the designs to save money on materials and labor and adhering to code and company standards.
• Communicates effectively with other team members as needed and assists in the training and development of other designers (Design Manager, design colleagues, salespeople, manufacturing and shipping personnel, etc.).
• Takes the initiative to solve design and engineering problems through effective plan reading, efficient troubleshooting, and communicating any issues or concerns to the appropriate people while documenting the solution(s).

Requirements:

• Ability to read and comprehend blueprints; a minimum of one year of experience designing optimized projects with Alpine and/or other design-related software.
• General construction industry knowledge, basic CAD and drafting knowledge, engineering fundamentals, and current local codes related to truss design (TPI)
• Strong mathematical abilities, including the ability to calculate tributary loads, concentrated loads, and load transfer throughout the building.
• They must recognize that they are the first step in a multi-step process, and that the output of one affects the work and efficiency of many.
• Willing to jump in and tackle any problem with a positive attitude centered on customer satisfaction.
• Requires general construction knowledge, attention to detail, and experience with software design.
• Experience in truss or related design is required, as is a passion for design and attention to detail.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with various levels of management/advisers.
• Must be capable of performing functions with or without reasonable accommodations
