Job Summary

Directs and leads K-12 program development, curriculum and instructional design, and activities designed to address the challenges of a changing market. This position directs, coordinates, and supervises internal and external program development contributors. Confers with the Chief of Education and Learning Technologies Officer and other members of leadership to ensure all learning experiences meet organization objectives of solving real-life problems and providing exceptional user experiences.

Essential Functions

  • Delivers new programs from concept stage to delivery through collaboration with the Vice President of User Experience and Program Management.
  • Directs and coordinates development team activities to ensure projects are on schedule and within budget. The team includes but is not limited to content specialists, subject matter experts, correlation specialists, content writers, editors, user-experience and user-interface developers, and instructional designers.
  • Establishes consistent program development process standards leveraging industry methodologies focused on the end-user and their needs.
  • Creates testing procedures to ensure critical input is gathered to understand how end-users behave, think, and feel when interacting with the product.
  • Analyzes operations to evaluate the performance of the development team to determine if processes can be improved.
  • Provides consultation and expert advice to leadership or other groups in the areas of content, instructional design, and education-related topics.
  • Utilizes evaluation and reasoning with information to make decisions and solve problems.
  • Negotiates or approves contracts with software partners and external partners supporting the development process.
  • Promotes the organization’s vision, mission, problem definition, and opportunities with internal and external contributors.
  • Identifies design problems and articulates the issues to ensure solutions align with product vision and organization outcomes.
  • Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among multidisciplinary team members to achieve high-quality results.
  • Participating with education leadership in content strategy, product roadmap, and sponsorships.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degrees in education or instructional design or equivalent experience.
  • 20+ years of relevant work experience in instructional design, curriculum development, and design principles.
  • Comprehensive understanding of current education trends, graphic design for print and digital output, user-interface and user-experience design, information design, and interactive design.
  • Demonstrated success in creating K-12 blended learning curriculum for national delivery with proven learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of publishing, graphics, media rights management, editorial, web technologies including both front-end and back-end applications, and media and digital technology.
  • Ability to observe and evaluate the outcomes of complex problem solutions to identify lessons learned or redirect efforts in a face paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing and through oral expression so others will understand.
  • Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with multidisciplinary teams, JA Areas, JA Worldwide, and funding partners.
  • Knowledge of media production, dissemination techniques, and methods including alternative ways to inform using visual media and information flow applications.
  • Experience as an educator.
  • Travel 10 to 20 percent.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $124,000 to $141,000 annually, with the exact salary depending on prior work experience and the assessment of one's fit for the role.
