Position Summary

The Vice President of Marketing & Communications will serve as a key member of the Executive leadership team and will work to build awareness of the organization, as well as the value and importance of workforce development and education as critical pieces of economic development in the state. This, combined with the goals and priorities identified in the strategic plan, will enable the Vice President and the marketing and communications team to craft messages and themes that reflect the organization's strengths and ambitions, raising SkillsRI’s profile both statewide and nationally, and enhancing its reputation as an organization dedicated to creating demand-driven solutions for both employers and the unemployed and underemployed populations within our state.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of communications, messaging, and government and community relations efforts to build awareness of SkillsRI and its message.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and leadership team in setting priorities and devising communications for organization-wide objectives.
  • Analyze existing branding and marketing materials to determine community impact; revisit or build upon current materials to maximize impact.
  • Lead a capable marketing and communications division while delegating responsibilities to employees at the director and management levels.
  • Monitor industry trends and schedule meetings to share new information with the team.
  • Attend SkillsRI events to ensure elements of success are documented and shared on marketing platforms.
  • Implement a comprehensive, integrated marketing plan, while working closely with leadership across the organization.
  • Emphasize marketing content that attracts and engages the diverse populations that the organization works with.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to plan, create, and launch creative campaigns and compelling stories around SkillsRI announcements and initiatives that resonate with audiences.
  • Assess data to drive informed decisions and conduct regular analysis of the value and effectiveness of marketing and communications efforts.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues across the organization to promote SkillsRI's mission by sharing testimonials of SkillsRI to external audiences.
  • Actively build relationships across the organization's community with key stakeholders, including board and community members.
  • Lead reputation management for the organization, anticipating and preparing for issues and events with the potential for reputational impact.

  • Passion for the mission of SkillsRI and enthusiasm for its success
  • Strong grasp of industry best practices and a holistic understanding of all aspects of marketing, communications, positioning, and marketing.
  • Comfort with - and enthusiasm for - working in a fast-paced start-up environment
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work while accomplishing goals under tight time constraints
  • Ability to communicate professionally across a broad range of constituent groups
  • Strong interpersonal skills including relationship building, customer service, empathy, and resilience
  • Ambitious, proactive, and detail-oriented
  • Strong documentation skills, and able to make connections between similar problems
  • Willingness to work hard, maintain a positive attitude, and overcome challenges
  • Solution-oriented problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize according to business goals
  • Conviction, integrity, honesty, and maturity in all situations

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills necessary to foster a cohesive team while promoting a positive work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to provide and execute on strategic vision
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating the strengths of existing communications and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Demonstrated experience communicating with members of diverse populations and backgrounds
  • Knowledge of multi-cultural, multi-lingual populations

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience.
