We're looking for a skilled Test Engineer to help us meet our exploding needs for oil-free bearings that enable small, high-speed turbomachinery for fuel cells, refrigeration, and even some unique things we can't even talk about yet.

Test Engineer

Responsibilities:

• Set-up and debug instrumentation, data acquisition systems and variable frequency drives for high-speed test rigs,
• Program LabView data acquisition and control systems
• Develop test plans, configure and calibrate test rigs or bearing inspection fixtures to meet test plan goals, run and document tests
• Select and work with vendors to source sensors and data acquisition system modules/components
• Aid with overall design, assembly, and debugging of rotating machinery part test rigs
• Reduce test data and interpret test results
• Maintain rig documentation and notebooks
• Aid with foil bearing design, manufacturing, and QC inspection to help meet occasional production overloads

Requirements:

• Strong drive to figure out why something happened during a test and how it relates to the overall test goal(s)
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, create, read and interpret instrumentation and process layout drawings and whiteboard sketches
• Ability to install, neatly wire-up/connect and debug data acquisition setups that show artistry
• Familiarity with rotating machinery test instrumentation including thermocouples, force sensors, displacement sensors, accelerometers, and 1x pickups.
• Solid background with data acquisition systems and basic signal processing concepts
• Ability to use multimeters, oscilloscopes, FFT signal analyzers, etc.
• Ability to do computer-based work for extended periods of time
• Ability to lift and position parts weighing as much as 40 lbs.
• Good basic skills in AutoCAD, SolidWorks and/or 3D CAD
• Ability to program in MATLAB and LabVIEW
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as a member of a small team
• Detail oriented, methodical, focused, safety conscious
• Ability to remain focused while conducting a (possibly repetitive) test sequence
• Willingness and fervent desire to learn new skills/knowledge

Other Skills and Capabilities, Any of Which Would be a Plus

• Machine shop/construction/industrial experience
• Background in rotating machinery vibration and troubleshooting
• Mechanical design experience
• Electronics/wiring/industrial controls experience
• Familiarity with commercial (industrial) power and instrumentation wiring practices, codes and safety requirements
• Project management experience, especially in a R&D or product development setting
• IT, computer and network support capability

Education

• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Electrical

Engineering

• Associates degree and at least 5 years of direct relevant experience will be considered
