Spring Farm CARES is a non-profit Animal and Nature Sanctuary. We are looking for a compassionate, hardworking Animal Care/Farm Assistant to join our team in caring for retired, elderly, formerly neglected and/or abandoned horses, donkeys, goats, pigs, chickens and ducks; in maintaining the barns and pastures; storing hay, and with other farm related work.

Job Description:

• Feed and water horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs, ducks and chickens
• Take animals to pasture
• Groom horses, donkeys and goats
• Clean (and de-ice in winter) watering buckets and troughs
• Clean stalls, paddocks, chicken and duck enclosures, and haul manure
• Keep large animal facility clean and orderly
• Load and stack hay
• Repair and build pasture fences
• General pasture maintenance and cutting weeds and brush
• Perform minor general repairs
• Keep tractors and farm equipment clean
• Other barn and/or farm chores as assigned
• Work needs to be performed in a barn, where it will be dusty, and/or out of doors, during all seasons and weather conditions
• Job requires demanding physical work, incl. repeated heavy lifting (up to 80 lbs.) throughout the work day

Requirements:

• Good rapport with and caring attitude toward animals
• Experience with horses, other farm animals and/or farm work required
• Experience with driving tractors or must be capable of learning quickly
• Experience with other farm equipment helpful
• Handy man’s skills highly desirable
• Must be able to correctly follow oral and written instructions, and pay attention to details.
• Must be able to perform demanding physical work throughout the day
• A full-time position requires work on at least one or both weekend days, and on holidays (2 days off/week). Work hours are between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. (normally 8 hours/day). - The part-time position requires a minimum of 12 hours/week; work hours are between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. and at least 4 hours/day.

• Valid NY State driver’s license
