The Role

The successful candidate will draw upon their past experience to take ownership of new mechanical design engineering team, manage its projects, and act as a technical mentor. Mentorship and a forward thinking approach are important to ensure the team remains the supplier of choice for our customers. You will be the face of Quest Defense to your customers and to the wider industry. Through listening to customer challenges, and building on your previous experiences, you will find creative approaches that will solve their most difficult engineering problems.
We are seeking a full time Team Lead who will help deliver projects and mentor their team to meet the needs of our customers and achieve business goals. The team lead will oversee a group of 6-12 engineers performing various services such as, mechanical design, mechanical design engineering, engineering analysis such as FEA, and potentially other adjacent services.
As a leader, you will be on the front lines helping establish the next big accounts for Quest Defense. Experienced managers in Delivery will be supporting you and the team as we launch our unique Engineering Services model to help them deliver world-class aerospace and defense products. You may at times be involved with multiple projects across all phases of development, and as a result, you can expect plenty of variety and a well-rounded workload.
One of the most critical aspects to the role is ability to adapt to changing requirements and priorities, collaborate with teammates and customers, and communicate effectively with Quest Defense and customer stakeholders. Successful candidates will be proactive in overcoming obstacles, providing answers to questions, leading program governance and KPI tracking, and always looking for ways to improve. It’s important to be communicating clearly and often to all stakeholders within the customer and Quest Defense.

Potential Job Functions

• Manage and develop a team of engineers with a wide range of experience and expertise in product definition, design engineering, and mechanical analysis
  • Resource planning, goal setting, coaching, day-to-day management
• Build and foster existing and future relationships with customer counterparts to help expand opportunities and contribute to business development
• Help guide and mentor engineers with the help of industry recognized experts
• Follow all Quest Defense policies and procedures to ensure proper employee performance and development (metrics, performance reviews, training plans, etc.)
  • Project financial tracking and status reporting
  • Project schedule adherence and delivery excellence
  • Project invoicing (monthly)
• Participate in recruitment initiatives such as interviews and onboarding
• Support project planning of new and existing tasks (cost, schedule, and scope)
  • Proposal preparation, risk assessments
• Develop internal processes and procedures based on best practices and lessons learned, where applicable
• Collaborate with resource managers internally and externally to staff projects
• Communicate both orally and in writing to internal and external customers; strong verbal, written and presentation skills are necessary
• Interact with internal and external customers, stakeholders, and team members
  • Weekly status reports, SOW Discussions, Scope Revisions

Qualifications

We’re excited to talk to you if your qualifications meet the following criteria:

• 5-10 years of experience in the aerospace industry
• BS/B.Tech in Mechanical or Aerospace engineer (or relevant experience)
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, work under time constraints, maintain composure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Experience with GD&T and CAD requirements a plus
• Experience with ANSYS Classic and Workbench preferred
• Experience with product definition, design engineering and field event investigation a plus
• Familiarity with Aero Engines desired
• Experience with data analytics, quality practices and root cause analysis desired
• Ability to interact with employees/managers at all levels with strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
• Personnel management experience is preferred
• Project Management experience is preferred

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Mostly office environments
• Heavily regulated industries with strict adherence to procedures
• US Citizen required with ability to obtain and maintain a Secret-level US DoD security clearance
• Existing DoD Secret clearance or above is strongly preferred
