Pre-Anesthesia Testing Registered Nurse:

Location: Must be flexible to travel between Lebanon and Lancaster Locations

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm, 9am-5:30pm (Five 8hr shifts)

Summary/Objective:
The registered nurse will be responsible for completing all chart prep and evaluation for surgery which includes patient's medical history/medications, completing questionnaires, providing education on surgery/anesthesia, ensuring pre-surgical testing is complete, and evaluating readiness and optimization for surgery. The RN assumes responsibility and accountability as defined by the American Nurses Association standards of nursing practice.

Primary Functions:

  • Incorporates North Pointe Surgery center's mission, vision and values into planning patient care.
  • Functions as an independent and interdependent member of the health care team as defined in unit-based plan for provision of care.
  • Performs patient assessments, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive functions.
  • Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes and adapts the plan of care based on recognized trends and changes.
  • Collects and manages comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or the situation under the supervision of the Medical Director and Director of Anesthesia
  • Analyzes the assessment data to determine the diagnosis or issues. Formulates age-appropriate and culturally and sensitive plan of care.
  • Implements care in a knowledgeable manner and coordinates patient care across several disciplines and among caregivers.
  • Uses evidence-based practice, critical thinking, clinical decision making, compassion and skilled dialogue, the registered nurse leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience.
  • Effectively communicates expected standards of care, encourages, and supports team members and their contributions.
  • Is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the appropriate utilization of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation, in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.
  • Schedules patient airway appointments with anesthesia in relation to the patient selection policy and anesthesia guidelines.
  • Monitors the anesthesia work que to ensure that chart reviews are done in a timely manner to prevent day of cancelations and/or delays.
  • Educates patients about healthy practices and treatment modalities.
  • Ensures that the PAT process is initiated within 48 hours of the scheduled case; this includes but is not limited to: an initial review to determine need for EKG, Medical or Cardiac Clearances, first call to patient to complete questionnaires.
  • Communicates with physician specific administrative assistant to schedule needed testing and clearances in a timely manner.
  • Acts as a patient advocate and maintains privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information
  • Maintains required competencies.
  • Other duties as assigned and required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required.
  • Current Pennsylvania RN License is required.
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • 1 year of ICU or PACU or Intermediate/Telemetry experience preferred.
  • Current Pennsylvania RN License
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification
  • The ideal candidate will have:
