The Software Engineering Manager II is a key member of the Engineering Leadership Team responsible for daily leadership, management and overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the multi-disciplinary engineering department. The Engineering Manager must lead the department as the Chief Engineer directs the strategic vision of the engineering organization. As an engineering leader, the Engineering Manager must also provide hands on technical expertise and function as part of the technical team. Engineering disciplines include, but are not limited to, systems engineering, software engineering, and hardware engineering.

This position will be based out of our headquarters located in Oviedo, Florida and requires an on-site office presence. May be eligible for a Monday through Friday hybrid work schedule (3 days in-office/2 days remote) but will be determined based on the needs of the business.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Direct technical oversight for assigned projects and indirect oversight over all projects being supported by personnel they manage
  • Manage direct (i.e., managers and individual contributors) and indirect (includes individual contributors reporting into direct reporting managers) reports, including labor planning (including assigning personnel to projects), financial budgets, engineering tasking, and oversight of engineering staff in one or more engineering disciplines
  • Ensure project work products and deliverables are developed in accordance with organizational standard processes
  • Conduct technical reviews to ensure performance and progress align with program (cost, schedule and technical) objectives, while proactively ensuring a robust risk management posture, in an effort to prevent and remediate under-performing projects
  • Establish, reinforce, and improve organizational and program processes
  • Establish and support program and organizational objectives
  • Facilitate and reinforce successful multi-disciplinary project execution
  • Solve complex technical and management problems requiring in-depth analysis of various factors
  • Interview, hire, coach, and train employees; while appraising employee performance, while rewarding and disciplining employees. Address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Work with Program Managers to develop technical proposal volume, proposal estimates, Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), schedules and risk assessments

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Ten (10) years Systems, Software or Hardware Engineering experience
  • Advanced technical knowledge of DOD simulation technologies and products
  • Four (4) years management/leadership experience in fast paced engineering environment. Demonstrated record of accomplishment of success in delivering results
  • Fluency in C, C#, C++, or other compiled programming language
  • Working knowledge in fundamentals of operating systems
  • Fluency Windows / Linux operating system APIs
  • Working knowledge in advanced algorithms and design patterns
  • Fluency GIT, TFS or other software version management tool
  • Experience with leading of a software development team
  • Capable of obtaining and maintaining U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) secret security clearance
  • US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge in flight/weapon simulation systems (e.g., OFT, WST, real-time executives, distributed interactive simulation, avionics, I/O, aural cueing systems, multi-function displays interface)
  • Fluency in Unity, Unreal, Cry or other gaming engine
  • Working knowledge in networking fundamentals, real-time programming fundamentals and threaded programming fundamentals
  • Experience with Jira/Azure or other project management tools

Pay: $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
