River Valley, a growing specialty foods and consumable products distributor in Syracuse, NY, is searching for a full time Staff Accountant.

River Valley Holdings is a family-owned distribution company based in Syracuse, NY, serving retail customers across the northeastern United States. The River Valley family of companies: River Valley Foods, Cavallaro Foods and Garden Spot Foods, distributes a wide range of specialty dry and frozen grocery items and consumable products out of warehouses in Syracuse, NY and New Holland, PA.

The Staff Accountant will serve as a key member of the Accounting department to assist the Senior Accountant and contribute to other aspects of the Accounting department, including but not limited to, financial statement preparation, annual budget and annual audit process, tax preparation, working with company financial institution on transactional data exchange, Gross Margin and Operating Expense analytics, and other key strategic projects to support decision making.

This position is located in-office, scheduled Monday-Friday, 8am-430pm, and reports to the Vice President, Finance.

Staff Accountant Duties to include:

• Daily interaction with banking website for activity reconciliation
• Produce and review daily balance sheet analytical changes and reconciliations for all three subsidiaries
• Gross margin account reconciliation of daily activity
• Evaluate daily a/p transactions surrounding Operating Expenses and Trade Vendors to ensure accuracy and categorization is appropriate
• Work with company auditors on annual financial audit for financial statement presentation
• Assist with monthly presentation of all aspects of financial statements, including income statement, balance sheet, changes in cash flows and departmental expense to budget changes

• Ensuring compliance with, and a basic understanding of, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

• Contribute to the process to ensure financial statements are finalized within 10 business days
• Participate in annual budget process to develop the forecast for the following business cycle
• Work with departments to develop projections based on known assumptions
• Support Senior Accountant workflow to fully cross train duties and backfill as necessary
• Support Vice President, Finance workflow to cross train various duties and backfill as necessary

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) or Associate Degree (required) in Accounting
• 3+ years of Accounting experience in public or private setting
• Working knowledge and awareness of GAAP
• Strong numeric and analytical skills
• Experience in Microsoft Business Central/Navision/Microsoft Dynamics software environment a plus
• Strength in multi-tasking, directional evaluation and prioritization with ability to support day to day transactional activity at various levels
• Experience with Microsoft Suite of programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
