Canary Systems is an electronic hardware and software engineering firm specializing in deploying turnkey data acquisition solutions primarily for the Civil/Geotechnical Engineering market, i.e. projects involving mines, dams, bridges, tunnels and buildings. We operate in several markets including construction, mining, geotechnical, industrial and public infrastructure.

We are looking to fill a full-time position for a Technical Writer / Documentation Specialist to develop, write, and maintain user guides, help systems, web and other content for our hardware and software products and produce high-quality, technically accurate information. We are looking to immediately fill this full-time position in our New London, NH office. Candidates must reside in either NH, ME or VT and be able to commute to the office a few times per week.

Responsibilities Include:

• • Work with developers and other subject matter experts to gather and document product information
  • Work with Marketing, Product Management, and other engineers to develop and write information for new product releases; including online help, printed manuals, release notes, product overviews, and other product information as required
  • Participate in product planning meetings, estimate documentation requirements, and provide feedback to developers for user interface, ease-of-use, and product functionality
  • Develop screenshots and conceptual graphics as required to illustrate procedures, concepts, and other information in the product information
  • Master and implement new help and publishing tools
  • Coordinate information deliverables with marketing for product launch
  • Work with Tech Support on customer feedback and solutions to improve product information and the customer experience
  • Edit text for technical clarity, accuracy, grammar, consistent terminology, and style

Expertise Required:

We will train the right person but the following background and skills are highly desirable.

• • Technical writing experience for software development projects and electronic hardware
  • Strong PC skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and other publishing software
  • Experience in instructional design, training, and education, and/or experience in electronic engineering a plus
