Marshall and Putnam Counties are seeking a motivated individual to lead the infrastructure efforts in the two counties as the full-time County Engineer. The person is responsible for the transportation system in both counties, which includes 150 miles of county highways, 650 miles of township roads (16 townships) and 130 NBIS bridges. Both counties are committed to investment in transportation infrastructure. The County Engineer is involved in all facets of the work, including planning, design, construction, contracting, budgeting, financing and maintenance. Two county highway departments are under the County Engineer's supervision, including 12 full and part-time employees, construction and trucking equipment. A number of consulting engineering companies are utilized to complete under the County Engineer's direction to conduct the work.

Applicants must meet the statutory requirements of 605 ILCS 5/5-201, hold a currently valid certificate of registration as a licensed professional engineer in the State of Illinois, must have a civil engineering background with at least 8 years relevant experience including highway construction and maintenance experience. Applicants shall be familiar with policies and procedures of the Illinois Department of Transportation, have experience supervising staff, construction and must be able to coordinate with township highway commissioners, elected officials, other government agencies, utilities, businesses, industry, and property owners. Applicants must have good communication and organizational skills.
