General Manager - Heavy Civil / Highway Construction Division

An Indiana Construction firm is looking for a General Manager - Heavy Civil / Highway Construction Division that has 15+ years INDOT experience to join their team. The position is responsible for managing INDOT highway and bridge construction projects between the Indianapolis and the Evansville, Indiana area.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading, managing, and holding accountable a growing team to deliver projects on time and within budgets.
  • Maintain and build a strong, positive environment in order to attract and retain the best employees with a culture that breeds excellence in heavy civil construction.
  • Primary liaison between the firm and the project representatives.
  • Direct activities of consultants, contractors and supervisory staff engaged in heavy civil and highway construction of highways structures and services.
  • Provide technical and managerial guidance and advice to resolve related issues.
  • Ensure material and staff resources are utilized efficiently.
  • Represent the company at committee meetings, contractor meetings, consultant meetings and meetings involving INDOT.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local codes, laws, and rules and the terms of contracts.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel between the Indianapolis and Evansville area, Indiana.
  • 15+ years of heavy civil / highway construction experience.
  • Bridge construction / repair work experience required.
  • Roadway and concrete paving experience preferred.
  • INDOT experience required.
  • You have proven leadership and managerial skills to effectively supervise and develop professional, technical and support staff and resolve personnel problems and staff relations issues.
  • You have demonstrated negotiation skills and can provide contracts guidance to resolve disputes with consultants and contractors.
  • Ability to demonstratet, identify, and provide direction in the resolution of complex and contentious issues.
  • Have a passion for developing, building and leading organizational capacity through inclusive, positive, and values-based leadership in areas of organizational design, recruitment, talent and performance management and labour relations matters.
  • Understand and know how to comply with all regulations; implement a positive attitutde toward health and safety in the design and execution of the project of the project; ensure safe deliverables and incorporate sustainable development.
  • Have sound judgement to provide authoritative advice and guidance to senior management.

Technical Knowledge:

  • You have advanced knowledge of civil construction theories, principles and practices related to heavy highway, bridges and INDOT.
  • You have knowledge of administrative and policies, procedures and standards governing construction, maintenance, and contract administration.
  • You have strong analytical skills to assess recommendations for technical adequacy.
  • You have initiative, problem solving skills, and sound judgement to assess and solve complex problems.
  • You are able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and to make decisions independently with minimal supervision.
  • You can negotiate financial commitments with consultants and contractors.
  • You have well-developed organizational, management and interpersonal skills to supervise a diverse construction and maintenance staff and represent the firm in a geographic area with respect to construction and heavy highway matters.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $126,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
